USN F4F Wildcat Summary

This is a 3D printed sculpt of the F4F Wildcat from EBard Models. 

The Grumman F4F Wildcat service in 1940 The Wildcat replaced the Brewster Buffalo and was the only carrier-based fighter available to the USN for the first part of the war. The Wildcat was outperformed by the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, however when using newly devised tactics, the F4F would go on to rack up an impressive kill ratio of nearly 7:1 for the entire war.

Lessons learned from the Wildcat were applied to the later F6F Hellcat, but was not totally replaced by the improved F6F. The Wildcat continued to be built throughout the remainder of the war to serve on escort carriers, where larger and heavier fighters could not be used.
