UK - Matilda II Tank x 3 Summary

The Matilda tank is the standard UK tank game piece used in all the major Axis and Allies game versions.

The Matilda tank represented perhaps the best of the infantry tanks. The French and British doctrine called for "infantry" tanks to be used in conjunction with infantry (hence the name) to launch attacks against an enemy line and then lighter, faster "cruiser" tanks would exploit the breach. The Matilda was heavily armored for the time and performed quite well against all Italian and early German tanks in the North African desert campaign which could not penetrate its outside plate. However, due to its slow speed and light gun, it was not able to keep pace with upgraded German tanks.
