IJN Zuiho Summary

The IJN Zuihō was the lead ship of her class of two light aircraft carriers. Originally laid down as a submarine tender, she was converted while under construction into an aircraft carrier. The ship was commissioned in December 1940.

Zuiho had an illustrious combat career spanning nearly all the major carrier campaigns. She participated in and survived the Battle of Midway in June 1942, and in the Guadalcanal Campaign during late 1942. She was significantly damaged during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands and had to undergo repairs.

Her aircraft were disembarked several times in mid- to late-1943 and used from land bases in a series of battles in the Southwest Pacific. Zuihō participated in the Battles of the Philippine Sea and finally, Leyte Gulf in mid-1944. For the Battle of Leyte Gulf, she was used as a decoy to lure the main US carrier forces away from the impending battle at Leyte Gulf. US carrier aircraft found her and sunk her during the Battle of Cape Engano in October 1944.

Choose between a unique, historically accurate wooden flight deck decal or late war camouflaged flight deck pattern. The Zuiho comes with a strong neodymium rare earth magnet to hold one aircraft.
