Essex Class Carrier Summary

This is an injection molded plastic sculpt of the Essex class aircraft carrier by HBG.

The Essex class represented the best fleet carrier design or the war. Of the 32 ships ordered, 24 were launched before the end of WW2. It carried a large air wing and was armed with wide array of anti-aircraft guns. Though it did not have an armored deck like the British carriers, the design could sustain substantial damage and survive. No Essex class carriers were lost in the war, and some remained in service after modifications until the 1970's.

Members of the Essex (short hull) class:

• USS Essex (CV-9)
• USS Yorktown (CV-10)
• USS Intrepid (CV-11)
• USS Hornet (CV-12)
• USS Franklin (CV-13)
• USS Lexington (CV-16)
• USS Bunker Hill (CV-17)
• USS Wasp (CV-18)
• USS Bennington (CV-20)
• USS Bon Homme Richard (CV-31)

The remaining members of the Essex class are part of the Ticonderoga (long hull) subclass.

This is the HBG version of the Essex, and it is fully magnetized to hold 2 aircraft. Purchase a loaded carrier and get a discount on magnetized aircraft.

The Essex class carrier comes in an authentic late-war hull camouflage pattern.

The above image is the 1944-45 plan for camouflage Measure 33, Design 10a on Essex-class fleet carriers. Of the 17 Essex-class carriers to see service during 1944-45, 4 were painted according to this plan.

Approximate dimensions (LWH): 64mm x 10 mm x 8mm
