USN F4U Corsair Summary

This is a 3D printed sculpt of the F4U Corsair from EBard Models.

The Vought F4U Corsair saw in both World War II and the Korean War. The Corsair was designed for carrier-based operations and the first prototype was created in 1940. Due to initial problems with carrier landings, which required several modifications, it wasn't until late 1944 that the Corsair first saw service. During the long modification period, the Corsair's early deployment was to US Marine and USN land-based fighter squadrons, and the Grumman F6F Hellcat became the primary carrier-based fighter. The Corsair achieved an remarkable combat kill ration of 11 to 1. The Japanese regarded it as the most formidable American fighter of World War II.

During the Korean War and subsequent French colonial wars, the Corsair served almost exclusively as a fighter-bomber. Production ceased in 1953, with 12,571 F4U Corsairs built. Its 1942–53 production run was the longest of any U.S. piston-engined fighter. Remaining serviceable aircraft were then by other airforces until the 1960s.

Add the F4U Corsair to your game for added realism or as an equipment upgrade path for carrier-based fighters. In our games, we begin with the F4F Wildcat and then upgrade to the Corsair after a predefined number of turns.

EBard Models - This sculpt is bigger than the HBG 3D printed version and is on par with the size of the now unavailable HBG injection molded pieces. If you have older pieces that you want to match, this is the sculpt to buy. EBard Models' attention to detail is unsurpassed. These are the most realistically proportioned sculpts of our F4U offerings.

HBG - This sculpt follows the A&A standard for fighters and has a wingspan of 22.5mm vs. 24.5mm for EBard's. If you want your F4U to match the relative size of the out of the box A&A pieces, this is the sculpt to get.

The right tool for the job 5 product stars
"The makers of AAA had an impossible task of selecting just ONE fighter to represent the USA. I respect their decision but you don't need to be a history buff to know that the P-38 lightning was not a carrier based aircraft. Thankfully outfits like HBG took up the charge to make things right by offering a range of historically accurate fighters and bombers. The painted and detailed Corsairs, Helldivers, Hellcats etc offered here are the most beautiful examples I have found on the internet. The decals, especially for the cockpits, are excellent and really set these planes apart. The F4Us are a personal favorite of mine. I recommend getting them magnetized so those gull wings dont give you problems when sitting on the carrier decks." Jeffrey A from Boston - Sunday, May 17, 2020
