The Yamato class battleships represented a major improvement over previous battleship designs,

Game Idea: We give the Iowa & Yamato battleship game pieces better performance than standard battleships and use the Yamato to provide the Japanese player with an equipment upgrade path in our games starting with the Nagato battleship class to the Kongo class then to the Yamato class. Each class has different costs and attack and defense capabilities. We start games with Nagato class ships only and allow immediate upgrade to the Kongos but only allow purchase of Yamatos either after a pre-defined game turn or after a pre-defined number of Kongos have been produced. Be sure to check out these other classes and have them ready for your next game.
