DAK Opel Maultier Summary
The Opel Maultier was created to convoy supplies to the front lines in all weather conditions, especially in the muddy conditions of Russia. The existing wheeled Opel Blitz truck could not fulfill this need and was converted into a half track vehicle that became known as the Maultier. While being a half tracked vehicle they lacked the overall mobility of a dedicated combat half track. Nonetheless, they were cheaper to build and considered successful in their role.This Afrika Korps version is painted in desert sand color with an olive drab canvas cover. The German national flag is on the front engine cover and has Balkan crosses on its flanks.
